Atlanta, Georgia – October 11, 2018<\/strong> –<\/strong> A very famous criminal lawyer in Atlanta is recently featured on GPB Radio News and discussed about the reported influx of handguns at the Atlanta International Airport.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thomas Barton<\/a>, Georgia Criminal Defense Lawyer said failure is not looking at the whole picture of airport security. ”If anything is a real danger to us, it’s not gonna come through the checkpoint. It’s gonna come around the checkpoint,” the lawyer pointed out.<\/p>\n

Barton said Atlanta International Airport is the biggest airport in the country, and the issue is mostly an oversight issue. There’s no mal intent. It’s not a situation of something bad.”<\/span><\/p>\n

“My clients are great people and they business owners. They are very successful people who travel all the time and they kept the guns in the car and they forgot about it and they are there for months. They got a call to fly to Houston. They go to the checkpoint and it goes off. So it’s really an oversight,” he explained.<\/span><\/p>\n

He believes that Atlanta airport’s failure is also because of southern gun culture as many folks in the south carry guns. <\/span><\/p>\n

Based on a recent report by an airport reporter, 211 guns were recorded and have been caught at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport security checkpoints. It reportedly exceeded the 198 guns caught from a previous year.
<\/span><\/p>\n

Hartsfield-Jackson is the world’s busiest airport but doesn’t have the most passenger volume through security checkpoints among U.S. airports because most ATL passengers are connecting. Still, it often “leads the nation” in guns caught at security checkpoints, according to TSA figures.<\/span><\/p>\n

The number of guns caught at airport security checkpoint nationally is also up, reaching 3,733 so far this year. That’s up from 3,391 for the full year 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n

TSA said it “would like to remind passengers that it is important for them to thoroughly search their bags for any potential dangerous weapons or prohibited items before departing for the airport.”<\/span><\/p>\n
